Visit to Most Northwesterly Point of Land in Contiguous U.S. Olympic Peninsula Day 6

Before breakfast, we took an early morning walk to Marymere falls, about a mile from Lake Crescent Lodge. By the time we returned, the Lodge restaurant was closed, so a chicken salad sandwich purchased at a small convenience store was our breakfast. 

We were booked that evening at Chito Beach Resort on the Strait of Juan de Fuca (the northern boundary of the Olympic Peninsula) and our drive there was on narrow, two-lane back roads with roadsides thick with wildflowers. At Callum Bay, we stop for lunch at a charming Big Sur-ish cooperative where we met Susan Moff Henry, a very good local wildlife/nature photographer.

Shortly after lunch and prior to the designated time for check-in, we arrived at the Resort. The door to our cottage was open and we were very impressed with the the spacious accommodations which included a fully-equipped kitchen, comfortable sitting room, and a large deck perched at water's edge. The owner then poked her head in and politely told us to come back after 3:00.

On to Neah Bay, in the northwest corner of Washington and home of the Makah tribal reservation. After stopping at the Makah museum to purchase a required permit for recreational activities on the reservation, we drove to Cape Flattery for a one and one-half hour round-trip walk to Cape Flattery Point, the most northwesterly location in the 48 contiguous states of the U.S. 

Before return-ing to Chito Beach, we decided that our lodging merited a couple of home-cooked meals and stopped at Washburn's General Store on the Makah reservation, where we were pleasantly surprised by the quality and choice of foods available. Purchased a generously sized ribeye steak, baking potato and salad fixings for the evening’s dinner and spaghetti for spaghetti aglio e olio the following night.
