Deschutes River Headwaters, 1/2 mile below Little Lava Lake Outlet

Temperatures soared into the 80s yesterday and we took advantage for our first paddle of the year. Little Lava Lake, the headwaters of the Deschutes River is 40 miles by road southwest (mostly west) of Bend. The northern route to the lake which caresses the northern shoulder of Mt. Bachelor was still closed for the annual winter-season shutdown, so we took the “southern” route through Sunriver, a drive of a little over 45 minutes on the mountain roads. We had the lake pretty much to ourselves, except for one angler and two other kayaks. Pretty day, as you can see from images below.
