1st Kayak Trip of 2018

| Deschutes River Headwaters, 1/2 mile below Little Lava Lake Outlet |
Temperatures
soared into the 80s yesterday and we took advantage for our first paddle of the year. Little Lava Lake, the headwaters of the Deschutes River is 40
miles by road southwest (mostly west) of Bend. The northern route to the lake which caresses
the northern shoulder of Mt. Bachelor was still closed for the annual winter-season
shutdown, so we took the “southern” route through Sunriver, a drive of a little
over 45 minutes on the mountain roads. We had the lake pretty much to
ourselves, except for one angler and two other kayaks. Pretty day, as you can
see from images below.
