Dinner with Morcks

On the Monday after Christmas, Steve and Jeanne Morck (foodies and wine aficionados that we have known since Pat worked with Steve in the early 2000s) cooked for us at their home in Fulton, MD. Both the food and wine were exceptional, as usual.

Upon arrival, four room-temperature cheeses, including a perfectly ripened (Wegman’s) triple-creme, were set on the kitchen counter and served with a French Chardonnay. I love eating and watching people cook!

We moved to the dining room for the first course —pan seared shrimp in a cream sauce that was flavored by a crustacean reduction Steve had produced earlier in the day. Next came homemade spaghetti in a chorizo, tomato, and olive sauce. The Andalusian spiciness of this dish was nicely complimented by a young fruity Zin that the Morcks, in collaboration with four other couples, actually crafted themselves.

A Willamette Valley Pinot Noir paired well with the rosemary-crusted baked salmon with beurre blanc that followed. All of this was topped-off with an eggnog crème-brulee that Steve caramelized with the same torch he uses for his home plumbing projects. Such a talented man!

The conversation was lively and included all our favorite topics: travel, food, and wine. We always look forward to any evening with the Morcks; they do all three in style.
