Monday with Warren Hardy

The pace of the month just picked itself up! This morning was our first 3 hour class at Warren Hardy Spanish. Warren’s focus is on learning for older adults and after one class we are convinced that he will do his part. Now the question is whether we can do ours! Every 3 hours of class has three hours of homework (at least). We are clearly the only rank beginners in the class but we are hopeful that we will have more confidence in basic communication skills when we are done. This activity will engage us for the next 8 MWFs.

We passed through the market place on our walk home. Besides fresh fruits and veggies, there are small vendors making quesadillas, unknown soups, carnitas, and comida platters. We stopped for carnitas sandwiches with green chili sauce that were great. With a coke, the lunch for two was under $3. The vendor offered to add large slabs of roasted pork fat to the sandwiches – maybe next time!

Someone stole Walter’s food bowl for the second day in a row. Next we’ll be feeding him in the house! (Walter is a semi-stray dog adopted by our landlords that we feed and allow onto the outdoor terrace at night).
While fixing dinner and sipping a little sauvignon blanc, we made a vegetable soup from a head of cauliflower and a large bag of soup “stuff” obtained at the market. Added a couple strips of bacon and a bit of bouillon and cumin for flavor. We found the boat motor under the kitchen cabinet and it worked like a charm, pureeing even the bacon and the chunks of manchega cheese we threw in at the end. We're giving it a few days to ripen and will let you know how it turns out.
