September 28 Cycling along the Animas River
Thank you Durango! After a morning spent fishing or doing laundry - depending on who you are :-) - the PM was spent on a wonderful cycle along the river path through town. The weather was glorious when we set out and the blustery conditions on our return only added to the exercise without adding any misery (eg heavy rain). The round trip was 15 miles.
Along the way we stopped to watch kids competing on a dirt bike course. They started with brave 8 year olds and progressed to competition at the expert 16’s. Don’t know much about this but it sure looked like fun! Grandson Peter, I see you enjoying this!
We also passed a slalom course set up in the river for kayak competitions. It brought back some WONDERFUL memories. We think that in the spring it must be something to watch. This river is supposed to have great white water, even in late August/early September.
We were speaking with fellow campers this evening and they said that Silverton was running at 22F in the evenings these days! The bathroom facilities here at the campground are closing for the season on Oct 1! I think the weather is in the fast part of its change cycle now – time to move on!
We were both truly hungry tonight so the grilled pork chops and the acorn squash halves glazed with brown sugar, butter, and citrus tasted wonderful- especially with the pinot noir.
