Ocean City NJ

We're on the road again! After US Air called us at 11:00 pm on Tuesday night to tell us our flight scheduled for 6:30 am the following morning was cancelled, we flew a redeye on Wednesday evening, arriving Baltimore at 7:00 am on Thursday. With two days of preparation, the van and pick-up were fully loaded by 10:00 Saturday morning and we departed for Ocean City, New Jersey with Dave & Lissa and the four grandkids -- Rose, Peter, Alder and Wade.

This is a nostalgia trip for Pat, Lissa and me and an introduction to our nostalgia for the rest. Started the memories off with an ice cream stop at 114-year-old Richman's Ice Cream in Sharptown, NJ (about half way there). Just at 2:00 pm, we pulled into Berger Realty at 31st and Asbury in Ocean City to pick up the key to our rental unit. Bright, clear skies, and brisk breeze make for a perfect day.

By 4:00, we are unpacked and on the beach, Pat and I walking from 39th Street to 55th before returning. Dinner at home (as will be the case each night this week, so no restaurant reports).

Sunday morning is very hot and Dave and Lissa and the grandkids spend the morning at the beach. Pat and I spend the morning reading in the comfort of our air-conditioned condo -- except for a brief excursion I take in search of a surf casting rod that is inexpensive enough to use for the week and leave on the east coast.

Fin-atics, located at 1325 West Avenue in Ocean City and found through a Google search, proved the perfect answer to that quest. The delight of a well-stocked local fishing store was augmented by a knowledgeable sales rep who understood exactly what was need and wanted and provided it for a third of the price I thought I would have to pay. If you're in the area and in need of anything fishing related, this is the place to go.

Tonight, we take the grandkids to the boardwalk. Pray for us. More on that later.
